PowerCenter is a Windows only client. Informatica has seen the competition (Talend, Pentaho, etc.) being platform independent by using an Eclipse IDE. With big-data platforms primarily focusing on Linux, they are now slowly moving towards being platform independent on the client side too. They also introduced an express edition that was Eclipse-based which only uses the Informatica Developer client. Developer tool is a lighter mode of Informatica PowerCenter.
