Is SAP Hard to Learn?
An Honest Answer

Short answer: SAP is more unfamiliar than it is genuinely difficult. It has its own terminology, its own interface conventions, and a lot of screens that look intimidating the first time you see them — but the underlying business logic is usually something you already understand intuitively from work or everyday life.

The people who struggle most with SAP aren't struggling with hard concepts — they're struggling with unfamiliar vocabulary and navigation, which is a very different, much more solvable problem. This distinction matters, because it changes what actually helps: not raw intelligence or a technical background, but structured exposure and hands-on repetition.

There are real friction points worth naming honestly, not glossing over.

SAP has an enormous amount of surface area — many modules, thousands of possible configuration screens, and terminology that doesn't map cleanly onto everyday business language (a "T-code" isn't something you'd encounter outside SAP). Early on, this volume can feel overwhelming, and self-teaching from scattered videos without structure or someone to ask questions tends to make this worse, not better, since it's easy to get stuck on something minor with no way to resolve it quickly.

Most of what makes SAP look intimidating from the outside turns out to be less of an obstacle in practice.

You don't need programming skills for functional roles like FICO, MM, or SD — these are business-process roles, and a relevant background (accounting, procurement, sales) often matters more than any technical aptitude. The interface, while unfamiliar at first, follows consistent patterns that become second nature within weeks of regular use, not months.
